I suppose it's the ultimate attack or move, he saves most of his power and does have to take a lot less care, though probably still sufficiently => It is efficient for offense and defense. My main point is that Cracker is not only defending, because it seems ineffective to just let him take down his defense, except when he hopes to fill him up (and Luffy could also "attack" as a stalemate). When Luffy says "Let us see Pudding, she s our friend" Nami goes "Luffy, forget about ..." (her being our friend?)
Implying she perhaps suspects Pudding based on what happened in Forest of Mirrors. Although it could be "forget about Pudding for now" - but at least id doesn't sound as a proof Pudding is friend and she tries to protect her from Mama's attention. Other than that we still have Luffy: "I ll still pound you some day, but for now I m here to get Sanji" - implying fighting BM isn't his agenda. And Mama still says "I d beat Kaido, Red-hair and even WB" - implying WB was still strongest at time of MF events.
Even if they don't age jail is still jail, she is taking away their freedom that's a fact. Nobody would want to spend their "eternal" life stuck in a book. In that state they can't even spend the life she gifts them with (as you said) as they want. I can't call that living. (I'm mostly talking about the humans here since animals are imprisoned in every culture and society)
