Later in the story we will know one of his sibling will be his long term nemesis. After defeating his father big moms new aquiantence Sanji will make a deal sealing it with his wedding. Sanji will declare himself as head of Germa in order to keep appearances that his father was using his best son for this in reality sham wedding. There being no king Sanji will find himself negotiating with big mom in behalf of Germa then Luffy will appear. there will be a second part of the deal Luffy will make a deal to take down Kaido first. It so happens Kaido is made a move against the world it affects big mom.
The strawhats leaving this arc alive will be contingent on Luffy agreeing on Kaido going down in exchange Luffy gets fishman island and big mom does not have to deal with Kaido!! GEAR 4 increases his speed, his armament becomes both hard and flexible like rubber without reducing the power. Infact it increases the power due to the spring like effects. Luffy, in my opinion, found himself in a peculiar position. He never came across someone like cracker with such strong armament and who can create infinite armament biscuit soldiers nearly as strong as himself without even fighting Luffy. Gear 4 KG was good enough for One biscuit soldier.
Organ gun for few due to increased area as you said. And it was overkill. Knocking them was easy but keeping pace with how quickly cracker was creating them was hard for him. The reason could be that how much calories and energy Gear 4 consumes and cracker mastery over creating soldiers just by clapping hands :p And here Nami came into play. I don't know whose idea it was Nami or Luffy but it was simply a brilliant one
